A dozen cars involved in I-93 crash

Posted: Updated:

NEW HAMPTON, N.H. (AP) — Authorities in New Hampshire say 12 vehicles crashed in a chain-reaction accident during heavy snowfall on Interstate 93.

New Hampshire state police said the crash happened on the northbound side of the interstate just south of Exit 23 in New Hampton. Police said other crash scenes were located between exits 22 and 23 in Sanbornton.

New Hampshire Department of Transportation spokesman Bill Boynton says the pileup left five people injured, but none of the injuries were life-threatening. Rescue workers took all five to hospitals.

It was snowing heavily at the time in the area at the time of the crash.

The accident temporarily forced the closing of I-93, but the highway was reopened.

Twelve vehicles were involved in the initial crash, before four more vehicles then became involved. Boynton says an additional four vehicles veered off the road to avoid the pileup.
