NEWTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) A 74-year-old Newton man was cited by police after they accused him of hitting a pedestrian on New Year's Eve.

Newton Police say they received a call at about 9:30 p.m. Monday about a hit-and-run accident at the intersection of Lincoln and Walnut streets.

Upon their arrival to the scene, police found a 57-year-old Brockton woman receiving medical attention while lying in the road. The woman was reportedly hit on the driver's side of a silver Audi wagon, causing the mirror cover to be ripped off.

Police found a silver Audi wagon near the intersection of Walnut and Washington streets shortly after the accident. They found that the driver's side mirror was missing. When an officer asked the driver about the missing mirror, the driver appeared surprised.

The driver was cited for leaving the scene causing personal injury and failure to stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

The victim was transported to Beth Israel Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center with unknown injuries.
