Father, son arraigned in Medford Little League theft case
SOMERVILLE (AP) - A father and son have pleaded not guilty to stealing more than $50,000 from a Medford Little League.
Seventy-eight-year-old Stanley Komins and 45-year-old Stephen Komins, both of Stoneham, were arraigned Friday on larceny charges in Somerville District Court. They were released on a promise to appear back in court next month.
Prosecutors say Stanley Komins was president of the West Medford league's board and his son was treasurer. They say the league audited its finances after the elder Komins refused to provide records when he resigned in 2011.
Prosecutors say an investigation showed the two wrote league checks to themselves and that Stanley Komins deposited proceeds from the snack stand into his own bank account.
The father and son declined to comment to reporters after the hearing.
