First Suspect Sentenced In Old City Fatal Beating Case

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Friday was sentencing day in a high-profile case that shocked the city a year ago.

One of three men accused of beating a Temple University graduate to death is going to prison.

The victim, 23-year-old Kevin Kless, was trying to hail a cab in Old City last January after a night out with female friends.

The three defendants apparently made comments to the women, then jumped Kless.

Felix Carillo, the first of the three who initiated the fight, pleaded guilty and received two to five years in prison.

The victim's mother says she's satisfied with the sentence.

"Nothing will ever bring Kevin back, whether it's two years in jail for this young man, or 20 years, or his life. It's never going to change the outcome of what happened that night," Kendall Kless said.

Prosecutors offered Carillo a plea deal because they say he took responsibility and because he did not strike the blow that killed Kless.

FOX 29's Claudia Gomez has more on what Kless' mother had to say about the City of Philadelphia in this video report.
