A Humboldt Park man is dead and another person is injured after they were shot while driving on the Dan Ryan Expressway on the Lower West Side early Sunday.
About 2:10 a.m., two males arrived at Rush University Medical Center with gunshot wounds and told Chicago Police they had been shot on the expressway, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.
Lavonshay Cooper, 22, of the 4200 block of West Cortez Street, died at Rush University Medical Center less than an hour later, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
State Police were called to investigate, and found the shooting happened in the northbound lanes of the expressway (I-90/94) between the 18th Street and Canal Street exits, a District Chicago trooper said.
One of the people wounded was driving the vehicle, authorities said, though further details on the crash were not yet known early Sunday.
Chicago Police said the wounded man was expected to be transferred to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital for further treatment.
State Police are investigating, and all lanes of the expressway have been reopened as of early Sunday, the trooper said.
