Boston officials to weigh panhandling ordinance

Posted: Updated:

A new proposal would ban panhandlers from some busy intersections in Boston.

The Boston Herald reports that a proposed ordinance will be submitted to City Council next week that lays out where people cannot ask for money.

Mayor Tom Menino created a task force to tackle the issue several months ago after the city reportedly received hundreds of complaints. Police worked with health officials to come up with a solution.

The Boston proposal comes as officials in Worcester have already submitted their own proposals for addressing panhandling.

There is a fine line between regulating and banning panhandling, which is protected by the Constitution.
