BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – Boston Mayor Tom Menino has been a vocal backer of gaming in the Bay State; however, when asked about a proposed casino in Everett, the mayor laughed and stated that he has heard nothing about it.
Mayor Menino has said that he would support a casino at Suffolk Downs on the East Boston/Revere border and cast some doubt on a competing proposal in Everett put forth by Las Vegas casino mogul Steve Wynn.
"The interesting part of it is I own part of the Everett piece," Menino said following a press conference about Converse, Inc.'s move to Boston. He also followed the comment up with a laugh.
When asked about the Everett casino, Menino said, "Nobody's ever talked to me about it. I only read the newspaper accounts. I haven't met anybody who has represented the other folks, from Everett."
After the casino debate was put to rest in Foxborough, Wynn dropped his plans for a resort style casino near Gillette Stadium and came forward with new plans to build a casino on a former Monsanto Chemical Company site in Everett.
The process is still in its early stages in Everett.
