Stretch of I-93 in Boston to be closed overnight Tuesday
BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is closing a portion of I-93 southbound in Boston in order to perform maintenance on the Zakim Bridge and the O'Neill Tunnel. The stretch of highway will reopen at 5 a.m. on Wednesday.
According to the Department of Transportation's website, I-93 southbound traffic will be detoured off of the highway at Rt. 38/Mystic Ave onto surface streets and will be allowed to re-enter I-93 southbound in the vicinity of South Station.
Traffic destined for I-90 westbound will access the I-90 westbound on-ramp just south of Kneeland Street.
The closure gives maintenance crews access to the Lower Deck, Zakim Bridge and O'Neill Tunnel Southbound which they would not be able to access otherwise.
Maintenance crews, contractors, along with Massachusetts State Police and Boston Police will begin set-up for the closure on both the southbound and northbound sides at 11p.m. on Tuesday.
