SAUGUS (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) The Saugus Public School Superintendent's office has announced that the principal of Saugus High School has been on leave since Dec. 18 as auditors conduct an inquiry into financial affairs of the school.
School department officials say Principal Joseph DiOrio's leave is not disciplinary and "no conclusion has been reached" regarding the principal. He is reportedly cooperating with the inquiry.
An audit into of specific school department's financial activities and town programs is being conducted by auditing firm Powers and Sullivan.
The announcement about Principal DiOrio was made in a press release on Wednesday morning.
"As this relates to personnel matters no further statements will be forthcoming until the conclusion of the inquiry. We ask that the public refrain from any speculation or conjecture as this potentially is a personnel related matter at this point," reads the release in-part.
DiOrio reportedly went to Florida just before Christmas break. When he did not return to school in the new year, high school students began posting fliers and taking to social media asking for help in finding their principal.
