BENSENVILLE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
A northwest suburban man was charged Friday with stealing a car with a baby girl in the back seat after her mother left vehicle running early Thursday. The girl was found safe in the abandoned car about six hours later.
Adan Ozuna, 34, of Bensenville is accused of stealing a black 2003 Buick Rendezvous — with the 18-month-old girl inside — that was left running in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 900 block of West Irving Park Road in Bensenville about 12:30 a.m. Thursday, according to Bensenville police.
The girl's mother told officers that when she entered the apartment building a man came out, entered the vehicle and drove off with the child still inside, police said. State Police issued an Amber Alert for the missing child.
About 6:45 a.m., a resident called police to report an unfamiliar vehicle parked in their driveway in the 1100 block of West Argyle Street and officers found the stolen car with the girl, Kimberly Delgado, inside, police said. The girl suffered no injuries and was reunited with her mother.
An investigation led police to Ozuna, who was arrested about 10:30 a.m. Friday and charged with felony counts of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and possession of a converted motor vehicle, and a misdemeanor count of endangering the life of a child, police said. He was also ticketed for driving with a revoked license.
Ozuna, of the 1000 block of Argyle Street in Bensenville, will be taken to DuPage County Jail and appear in bond court at 8 a.m. Saturday in Wheaton.
