Security issue at Plymouth nuclear plant linked back to duck hunters
PLYMOUTH (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) A Saturday morning security scare at the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station was the result of a group of duck hunters.
The Enterprise reports that the plant declared an "unusual event" at about 9:50 a.m. for security reasons. The alert was canceled just an hour later when investigators learned suspicious activity was duck hunters.
They say the unusual event classification is the lowest possible emergency classification used at power plants. Power plant officials say the plant was secure throughout the alert.
The Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station was taken offline on Thursday afternoon due to an issue related to the plant's recirculation pumps. Officials said on Friday that the power plant is in safe condition and that personnel is investigating the cause.
