Straphangers frustrated with disrupted subway service

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A real headache -- that is how New Yorkers are describing attempts to get around the city this weekend.

The MTA is doing work on 14 subway lines, disrupting service. The Brooklyn Bridge is shutdown as well.

Frustrated commuters expressed transportation trauma for the weekend with the 14 lines undergoing repairs.

Getting around is anything but easy.

The subway's usually a fast way to move through the city, but not so much this weekend. The MTA is performing scheduled maintenance on the 1,2,3,4,5,7,A,C,F,G,J,M,Q and S lines. That means service interruptions and delays. Riders understand it's necessary, but aren't happy about it.

Drivers aren't being spared the headache either. The Manhattan bound side of the Brooklyn Bridge is closed. The DOT says they're reconstructing the ramps. Many drivers Fox 5 spoke with weren't aware of it until they got detoured.

The good news is that the subway service should be back to normal by the start of the work week and the Brooklyn Bridge is expected to be open in both directions beginning at 6:00 a.m. Monday morning.
