BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – Two people were taken to the hospital following a fire that occurred on Everett Avenue in Dorchester on Sunday.

The Boston Fire Department responded to 5 Everett Avenue around 4:15 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke coming from the basement of the large, three story, six family duplex.

A male and a female resident were found on various floors and were taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. A dog was also found inside the residence.

The fire, which went to a third alarm, was knocked down firefighters, and investigators are searching for a cause and point of origin.

Boston's fire chief estimates the damage to be around $500,000.

Twelve adults and two children have been displaced.

The adjacent attached building was the site of a multiple alarm fire in 2012. The building is still boarded up.
