CAVE CREEK, Ariz. -

The president's gun control proposals have driven up gun and ammunition sales.

A local gun shop owner says the Newtown, Connecticut shooting sparked gun sales, and the president's proposal has only fueled the fire.

Longtime Arizona gun collector Tom Buohl is in a rush to buy more firearms.

"It's crazy. Everything is sold out. Obama is the gun salesman of the year," he says.

After the president unveiled his gun control plans, Buohl felt a sense of urgency to purchase more guns before they are sold out or taken off the market.

"I think it's ludicrous. Banning weapons will only take it away from legal people."

At Olsen Firearms in Cave Creek, manager Aaron Emling cannot keep enough guns or ammunition in stock. Sales are good.

"Semi-automatic rifles, handguns, shotguns, little 22's we seen it go up on everything," says Emling.

One customer was trying to buy a $6,000 gun that's now going for $11,000. The demand for firearms has ratcheted up gun prices too, which employees say is determined by suppliers.

"You cannot control crazy, you can't stop someone from doing something, who is hell bent on doing something. Doesn't matter what laws are in place."

Emling enjoys the boost in business, but he says America's problem still lingers.

We've since heard of another gun shop in town having to ration out bullets to customers.

People buying firearms in that Cave Creek store told us more emphasis should be placed on mental health.
