A celebration of winter-time activities, Winterfest is in the New Hudson and South Lyon areas Saturday Jan. 19.
The festival includes dog sled rides, a hockey goal shoot off, igloo building, a treasure hunt, old fashioned jump rope making and a Winter Animcal Care Clinic.
The Lyon Township Winterfest begins in New Hudson at 9 a.m. with a family style breakfast at the Lyon Township Fire Department. Station #1 is located at 58800 Grand River Ave.
Lyon Township was recently named the fastest growing community in Oakland County. The "Home Builders Showcase" tent will display some of the new houses currently being built in the area.
A chili cook-off invites restaurants to submit their best chili recipe to gain the 'Best of the Lyon Township Winterfest 2013' title. Judges include area personalities. Festival attendees can try their hand at taste testing for only $1. The proceeds will benefit Active Faith Community Services, a long term and temporary assistance service for those who have fallen on hard times.
