Now, Manti Te'o himself says he may have known his "so-called" girlfriend wasn't dead well before the news was made public.
Notre Dame's former football coach Lou Holtz says he wants questions some questions answered and says it's time for Manti Te'o to talk.
"He needs to have an interview," Holtz says. "'This is what I knew---when I knew it and how I knew it.'"
Holtz says Te'o is an amazing football player and has done well for himself and the Fighting Irish.
College football fans rallied behind the star after Te'o claimed his grandmother and girlfriend died on the same day.
Te'o reportedly played against Michigan the day the funeral of his girlfriend allegedly took place. He told friends all she wanted were white roses, which he sent to the services. Now fans and foes want to know where the roses went and why didn't he attend the services.
Holtz says he wants to believe the football star but it just doesn't make sense.
"For two and a half years you had a relationship with a person online. You never met them and you never talked to them and yet you devoted your life to them," Holtz says.
Holtz isn't the only one telling Te'o to talk. Even the Athletic Director at Notre Dame, Jack Swarbrick is asking Te'o to tell what he knows. He says the university still supports and believes the former football player and they believe he may hold a news conference next week.
As for the man behind the Te'o hoax, he reportedly told a church friend that Manti was not involved at all in the hoax and that he was a victim.
The woman pictured as the alleged girlfriend is in hiding, fearing her own safety as well as her family's safety. The phone calls Te'o allegedly received from the dying girlfriend were from the mastermind's cousin. The girl in the picture says she's a victim just like Te'o and she's asking everyone to come clean.
