Officer Breaks Through Window To Help Wilmington Elderly Woman

Posted: Updated:
WILMINGTON, De. -

A Wilmington police officer broke through a front window to help an 88-year-old woman who police say was lying helpless on her living room floor.

The woman was found when Corporal Kennita Champion responded to a call for a welfare check at the woman's home on the 100 block of W. 36th Street. Police say neighbors told Champion that the elderly woman was not answering their attempts to contact her.

Champion called out to the woman from the front door of her home. On hearing distressed sounds from the home, Police say Champion immediately broke in through a front window and saw the woman lying on the floor.

Champion stayed with the woman until an ambulance arrived, taking her to St. Francis Hospital for treatment.
