Thief Swiped Cash From Girl Scouts' Cookie Stand, Police Say

TREDYFFRIN, Pa. -

Police in Berwyn are searching for the thug who stole money from a Girl Scout cookie sales stand at a supermarket over the weekend.

The strong-arm theft occurred Sunday afternoon at the Pathmark on the 400 block of West Swedesford Road, according to a Tredyffrin Township Police Dept. news release.

Witnesses told police a man approached members of Girl Scout Troop 4305 at their table set up for cookie sales and took an undetermined amount of money from a plastic container for donations to send cookies to U.S. military service members.

The man also reached into a cash box containing money from the sales of the Girl Scout cookies and took approximately $20. But police said the quick actions of Girl Scouts to close the box denied the man any further access to the money.

He then fled to the rear of the building on its west side, got into a blue vehicle and left the parking lot.

Police said the man was described as a white male, between the ages of 20 and 30, of medium height and weight, wearing a dark-colored head covering, a dark-colored shirt and light-colored pants.

Detectives and patrol officers are actively working the case. Anyone who might have information is asked to call police at 610-647-1440.
