SEASIDE HEIGHTS, N.J. -

In the wake of Superstorm Sandy, officials in Seaside Heights, New Jersey say they don't want to take any chances if another storm hits.

Officials say they plan to build a concrete seawall to keep the waves away from the town.

Seaside Heights suffered significant damage when the storm made its way through the area.

The concrete wall would be 2 feet higher than the boardwalk to protect the area from storm surges.

The idea is getting mixed reviews among some environmentalists, who say it just won't work.

"When the waves come in and they hit the wall, because it doesn't disperse the energy, it actually forces the waves to go straight down. It causes your beaches to erode a lot quicker and a lot faster than they would normally if you had natural dunes," Jeff Tittle of the New Jersey Sierra Club said.

Construction on the boardwalk is scheduled to begin next week. The new sea wall would be built immediately afterwards.
