A new federal study has discovered another benefit to quitting smoking, and it's unlike anything done in the past.
An analysis of data shows that smokers cut their life span short by at least 10 years.
Scientists said smokers are three times more likely to die between ages 25 and 79 than non-smokers.
Here's the good news: The study found that smokers who gave up the habit before age 40 reduced the excess risk of death associated with smoking by about 90 percent.
