Northampton schools chief raps police probe

Posted: Updated:

NORTHAMPTON (AP) - Northampton's school superintendent has criticized a request by a Northampton High School official to students to unknowingly help police investigate an anonymous threat.

The Daily Hampshire Gazette reports ( ) that Superintendent Brian Salzer released an email that had been sent to teachers on Dec. 21 by the high school assistant principal, Bryan Lombardi, saying that the school was asked by Northampton police to gather a writing sample of all students.

Lombardi told teachers to dictate a statement to the students who were to print it.

Salzer says it was not the district's way of doing business and did not follow protocol.

The newspaper said Lombardi declined to comment.

A high school student found an anonymous threat on Dec. 19 in a boy's bathroom. Police have not detailed the threat, which is still being investigated.
