WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J. (AP) -- Fire in a laundry room forced the brief evacuation of an assisted living facility in Woodcliff Lake.

Police believe the fire began in a dryer at Sunrise Senior Living at 2:35 a.m. Monday.

Police Capt. Roger Caron tells The Record newspaper two police officers and four staff members were taken to hospitals for smoke inhalation. Caron also says a resident who showed symptoms of a stroke was also sent to a hospital.

The fire was extinguished before 3 a.m. and residents returned to their rooms.
