School van driver was arrested twice for OUI, but was still taking students to school

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – A Boston school van driver who was nabbed twice for OUI in 2012 had his license suspended and still drove students around until the school department suspended him Thursday.

According to the Boston Herald, Boston Public Schools officials did not know Gerard J. Grimes was shuttling McKinley Preparatory High School students without a license for more than six months until they were contacted by the newspaper.

The 53-year-old Grimes was arrested for OUI in Randolph on July 29 and a second time in Milton on Nov. 25. He was driving a city van in both incidents. Officials said no students were with him when he was taken into custody.

The revelation is now raising oversight questions in the school department.
