A Detroit firefighter cradling a small dog, the image snapped in the middle of chaos has touched hearts around the world. It was taken immediately following the deadly pileup. Matt Schaecher is the firefighter in the photo.

The Boston terrier with the big eyes is Riley. We talked to the dog's owner following the terrible crash.

"I hit a semi and this little guy went flying," she said.

Matt, a firefighter for 12 years, has responded to a lot of emergencies throughout his career. But it's his other job that makes him so good at handling animals. He's also an animal cruelty investigator for the Huron Valley Humane Society. It only fitting that Matt would be the firefighter to come across the one vehicle with a dog in need.
