KENNESAW, Ga. -

Police in Kennesaw are asking the public's help in identifying a person of interest who they say took over $12,000 from a Florida man.

According to Kennesaw police, the incident happened on December 17. The victim told them that he was a potential buyer of a 1969 Dodge Charger that he found on eBay Motors. Once he showed interest in buying the vehicle, he was redirected to another site by a seller going by the name of Linda Caragan to start bidding.

When the victim won the auction, he told police he was contacted by a Mr. George Hallmatt, who apparently was posing as an attorney for Caragan. Hallmatt told the victim how and where to wire the $12,860 to finalize the purchase.

According to police, the victim wired the money to an account at a SunTrust bank, and shortly after the money was wired to the account it was withdrawn. The victim has not seen the vehicle he bought, and correspondence with Hallmatt has stopped.

Investigators say the SunTrust bank account was set up with a fraudulent passport.

Police describe Hallmatt in his 50s or 60s. He's between 5'9" to 5'11" tall, and weighs close to 190 pounds. They say they are not sure if the man in a photograph released to the public is George Hallmatt.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Kennesaw Police Department at 770-429-4533 or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
