Police: Suspects Burglarize 2 South Jersey Homes in Broad Daylight

WESTAMPTON, N.J. -

Police in Westampton believe at least two thieves burglarized two homes in broad daylight on a weekend.

Mary Heisler tells FOX 29's Stephanie Salvatore she wasn't home when the burglars broke in through the back door of her home over the weekend.

The thieves managed to rummage through her kitchen cabinets and even used her own pillow case to steal every piece of jewelry she owns.

"You feel violated, very violated," Heisler said. "Because they went through your personal drawers, so, of course I was cleaning all of my clothes yesterday (Sunday) because you don't know what they were doing in your drawers."

Investigators say they received reports of a white utility van in the area of the two homes that were hit with at least two men walking door-to-door.

"Apparently, they're knocking on doors at first to see if someone's home,"Detective Roger Rogers of the Westampton Township Police Department said. "If someone answers the door then they'll ask if you need anything done around the house."

In another home, police say more jewelry was taken along with a handgun.

Even neighbors who haven't been hit tell FOX 29 the news of the crimes has taken away their peace of mind.
