PHOENIX -
Following the reelection of president Obama and the shooting
at Sandy Hook Elementary -- sales of guns and ammunition spiked, leaving gun
stores with empty shelves.
Now Walmart, the country's biggest gun seller, has announced
it is rationing its ammunition.
In order to take care of as many customers as possible,
starting Thursday, Jan. 24, all ammunition sales were limited to three boxes
per customer per day, as supply is limited at this time, Walmart spokesperson
Ashley Hardie told FOX 10. Hardie confirmed that ammo rationing is a nationwide
policy.
Store owners say they're in short supply and have never seen
a run on ammunition like this before – and admit the market is fear-driven.
Vic Pickett, the owner of Guns Etc. in Chandler, Ariz. says the
price of ammunition has gone up about 30 percent since the election. There,
they've implemented a limit of 100 rounds per person, per caliber, per day.
So how long will the shortage last? FOX 10's Jill Monier has
more.
