Storm dumps 24.9" of snow across Boston

Updated:

by FOX 25 Meteorologist Sarah Wroblewski:

A record daily maximum snowfall was set at Boston today as 14.8" fell at Logan. This breaks the previous record of 12.4" set back in 1994. The 2-day storm total from this powerful ocean storm dumped 24.9" of snow across the city.   That storm total allowed us to sneak into the 5th spot in the list of TOP Boston snowstorms of all time!

Other major cities also made history with impressive totals. Portland, Maine saw their biggest snowstorm of all time with 31.9". Hartford CT saw their second biggest snowstorm with 22.3". Worcester ranked number three with 28.5" and Providence RI saw 17" of snow putting this storm in their top ten at number eight.

Elsewhere across the region, snowfall reports over 30" came from Framingham, Spencer, and Quincy. Over two feet of snow with 4-5 foot drifts buried cities in Bristol, Essex, Hampden, Hampshire, Middlesex, Norfolk, Suffolk and Worcester Counties.

Overnight this storm will continue to pull away and move south and east of Nova Scotia. Any lingering snow showers over the Cape will taper and skies will clear. It will be a cold night with temps falling back into the single digits, teens/20s along the coast. Some far interior spots may dip below 0! Winds will also subside overnight.

Sunday will be a fine day for cleanup with plenty of sun and very little wind. If the wind on Saturday didn't clean the snow off your roof, then you should probably think about doing it yourself. A burst of snow Monday morning will turn to rain and seep into lingering snow. It will become heavy and could cause leaks and or structural damage with the added weight, especially flat roofs.
