CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Wesley Daniel is set to go home Thursday Morning, following a fire-blowing stunt that engulfed his face in flames and landed him in the hospital Monday.

SEE: Lyric Opera actor badly burned during rehearsal will fully recover

On Wednesday, Daniel proved he was in great spirits – sharing a bandaged photo of himself and displaying two thumbs up. Wesley Daniel has been recovering, so his family thought he would return home from Loyal Medical Center's burn unit Wednesday.

The actor's father, Clifton Daniel says doctors decided to stick with Thursday as his discharge date.

"He's bandaged. He's comfortable. His voice is still horse. But he's doing well. It's all good," Clifton says.

The Daniel family says the 24-year-old is in good spirits, keeping in touch with friends through Facebook and text messaging. He's taking some pain medication and his voice is horse.

"It's hard to talk to him, he can't speak very well, so there's a lot of hand signals," Clifton explains.

Clifton was in the audience at the Lyric Opera House, watching his son Monday night playing the role of a stilt walking fire breather in Wagner's "Die Miestersinger," when suddenly, his mask broke out in flames.

Clifton says Wesley hasn't spoken about that horrifying incident, but Clifton says he is still traumatized from the dress rehearsal.

"I saw performance go wrong, you're stunned, you don't believe it, it can't be happening," Clifton said of watching the accident unfold.

Wesley has second degree burns to his face and some blistering around his mouth, but it could have been worse. Doctors are likening his injuries to a severe sunburn.

"It's going to take longer to recover from that than a sunburn would, but he should recover fully," Clifton explains.

So will Wesley Daniel return to circus performing? His younger brother says, absolutely yes, but he is likely done performing fire blowing stunts. His father tells FOX 32 News that he is not sure if Wesley will return to the Lyric Opera house to continue his role as a stilt walker.

The Lyric Opera house has removed the fire stunt all together since the accident.

The family says they are extremely grateful to the staff at Loyola Medical Center, to the stagehands who helped extinguish the fire, and to the EMT's who transported him.
