Police have arrested three men and a woman in connection with a string of burglaries in affluent neighborhoods in east Cobb County. The suspects allegedly entered the homes of their victims at night while they were still at home and stole credit cards, designer purses and iPods among other items.
Detectives believe Jontavius Clark, Malloy Brooks, Jaquoria Harris and Richard Burgess were involved in the burglaries, which took place last month.
Lynn Keenum was at home when the burglars broke into his home and woke him up in the middle of the night.
"We could see a flashlight in this area here in the kitchen reflecting off of the windows and our bedroom is on the main level. So we knew immediately that somebody was in the house. And I yelled at him to leave and that didn't bother him at all," Keenum said.
Keenum says the crooks took several items, including a laptop computer and a handgun out of his truck in his garage. He made the mistake of leaving it open on the night of the burglary.
Residents said that St. Andrews Park was the kind of place where folks felt comfortable leaving their doors unlocked and sometimes their garage doors open. But not anymore.
Keenum now makes it a point to close his garage and lock all windows and doors and he says his neighbors are doing the same.
"Everyone is more aware. We have neighbors that have installed cameras. In a sense, it has been a benefit for everyone to be aware that, you know, yeah this is a great neighborhood, but by the same token, it doesn't mean you're immune to people coming in and taking your things," Keenum said.
Cobb police say this is an ongoing burglary investigation and they expect multiple additional burglary charges. They also say it will take them some time to recover all of the stolen property and return them to the victims.
