Tripp Halstead's parents say he could be headed home soon. The 2-year-old Winder boy has gone from the brink of death to thriving after suffering traumatic brain injury when a tree limb fell on him at his day care in late October last year.
Tripp's parents, Stacy and Bill Halstead, said that he had his fifth surgery on Tuesday at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite.
"I think his cognitive ability is there. I know distinctly one day they had him answering yes or no questions with buttons and he answered seven out of eight correctly and he's routinely answering them correctly," Bill Halstead said.
The parents said they are hopeful that he can be released next Friday.
"That can always change depending on, you know, if we have something going backwards but as of right now we're looking forward to next Friday to take him to our house," said Stacy Halstead.
The Halsteads said they're trying to sell their two-story home in Winder to move into a one-story ranch in Jefferson near other family members.
"All of our bedrooms and bathrooms are upstairs and he's getting bigger every day and it's just going to be really hard to carry him up and down," Stacy Halstead said.
"We literally have people all over the world praying for him and it's just the most amazing thing ever," said Stacy Halstead.
The Halsteads say there's another fundraiser for their son this Saturday at Chateau Elan, featuring a golf tournament. The Team Boom NASCAR will also be on display.
