Former Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. has dominated my reporter's notebook this past week.
Sources told us he finally signed an agreement with the federal prosecutors who've been pursing him. He'll plead guilty to corruption--misusing campaign funds--among other things and let a judge determine his prison sentence. There's no deal on that.
While that sad finale to a once-brilliantly-promising career was unfolding, down in Will County a dozen candidates who want his seat on Capitol Hill had their liveliest debate yet. Here's to the 700 people who turned out to watch on a wet, wintry night.
Maybe the voter turnout on Feb. 26th will be larger than some cynics expect. That would be a heartening development in a district where three Congressmen in a row have now resigned under a cloud--two of them facing prison.
