Sources close to Jackson Jr. claim Sandi is trying to smear Jesse

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

As Jesse Jackson Junior agrees to plead guilty to federal corruption charges, sources close to his side of the family claim his wife, Sandi, "is more guilty" than he. And they blame her for leaking recent newspaper stories damaging to the former congressman.

The sources close to Jesse Jackson Junior's side of the family tell Fox 32 News that Sandi Jackson was effectively her husband's combination campaign manager and treasurer. They blame her for much of the alleged wrongful spending to which he has agreed to plead guilty.

On Friday, Jackson Jr.'s father wouldn't discuss the plea deal Friday.

"I really can't. I'm not going to discuss my son's medical or legal situations today. At the appropriate time they'll be discussed. Okay?" Rev. Jackson said.

Off-camera, though, others close to Rev. Jesse Jackson's family say plenty. They hope that, in light of Jesse Jackson Jr.'s close cooperation with the federal investigators, and his ongoing bipolar mental disorder, a judge will sentence him to probation--or no more than 12 months in a prison with extensive psychiatric services.

Talking exclusively to FOX 32's Anna Davlantes, they describe the former congressman as "unable to get out of bed in the morning...physically weak...(and) in need of constant, 24-hour care."

They blame his wife, former Ald. Sandi Jackson, for leaking a series of stories designed to cast her in a sympathetic light at the expense of her husband to the media. They offer a notorious $42,000 Rolex watch the former congressman allegedly bought with campaign funds as evidence.

Months ago, other sources told Fox 32 News it was a female timepiece that Jesse Jackson Jr. gave to a Washington D.C. restaurant hostess and part-time bikini model. Sources close to Jackson, Jr., tell FOX 32 News that is not true. They claim it was a man's watch he bought for his own use, with his wife's knowledge. They said he is prepared to plead guilty to misappropriating the money used to buy it. While the watch was his idea, they blame his worsening mental illness. Sources close to the family say Sandi Jackson was behind other wrongful spending.

"Sandi is more responsible, more guilty than Jesse Jr. is," these sources declared. "The feds are investigating her because of what she did, not anything Jesse Jr. said."

Sources tell FOX 32 News the former congressman's side of the family is especially upset by reports that claim Sandi Jackson believes she's been thrown "under the bus" and that her husband could have done more to protect her from federal investigators.

Our source says Jesse Jr.'s side of the family calls that "nonsense." There was apparently a paper trail on many of the transactions.
