WORCESTER, Mass. (MyFoxBosto.com) – A Worcester firefighter who was planning to retire in 2013 suffered a fatal heart attack while using a snowblower at his Webster home on Saturday.

Worcester Fire Dept. Deputy Chief Geoffrey Gardell told FOX 25 that Patrick Germain was using a snowblower to clear his driveway, but took a break because he was not feeling well. When he went back outside later to finish up, he had a heart attack.

Germain was taken to an area hospital where he died. He is survived by his wife Kelly Germain and their four grown children: Sara, Daniel, Joseph, and Haley.

Germain, an investigator in fire prevention, would have celebrated his 33rd year on the job in September. He celebrated his 60th birthday two ago.

Chief Gardell called Germain a great, fun guy and said he will be sorely missed by everyone in the department.
