5 NYC firehouses get landmark status

Posted: Updated:

NEW YORK (AP) - Five New York City firehouses have received landmark status.

The city's Landmarks Preservation Commission says the firehouses have "distinctive" architecture. They've been in continuous use for more than a century.

They're in Sunset Park and Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn; Bathgate and Longwood, in the Bronx; and Rockaway Park, Queens.

New York City now has 37 landmarked firehouses. All but five are still operating.
