PHILADELPHIA -

A winter weather advisory is in effect for several counties in the Philadelphia area, South Jersey and portions of Delaware through early Thursday morning.

The winter weather advisory, issued by the National Weather Service, will remain in effect through 3 a.m. Thursday.

FOX 29 Chief Meteorologist Scott Williams says the first stage of the system arrived by Wednesday evening with widespread scattered showers. After 7 p.m., the temperatures began to drop and the rain and sleet began to change to snow.

FOX 29's Chris O'Connell reports 300 PennDOT trucks were scheduled to be on state interstates and major roads Wednesday night.

A PennDOT official says they haven't used their plows too much this season, but crews have used half of their salt supply due to the types of storms we've seen thus far this winter.
