Del. Courthouse To Reopen Wednesday After Deadly Shooting

WILMINGTON, Del. -

The police tape has been taken down and the windows damaged by bullets have been repaired as the New Castle County Courthouse prepares to reopen Wednesday.

The courthouse remained closed Tuesday after a shooting left three dead, including the gunman, and two officers injured.

Workers were still cleaning up from the shooting inside of the lobby of the courthouse where 39-year-old Christine Belford and her friend, 47-year-old Laura Mulford were gunned down at point blank range.

Earlier Tuesday, Delaware State Police identified the gunman as 68-year-old Thomas Matusiewicz, the father of 45-year-old David Matusiewicz. David Matusiewicz served time in a federal prison along with his mother after a high profile kidnapping case in 2007.

Police say the younger Matusiewicz walked through courthouse security around 7:40 a.m. Monday. Investigators say his father waited in the lobby for Belford to show up to a child support hearing with her friend.

Thirty-five minutes later, when the two walked through the doors, investigators say the gunman was waiting and opened fire, killing the two women. Two officers were injured before Matusiewicz turned the gun on himself.

The gunman's wife, Lenore Matusiewicz, left federal court hearing about her son David with no comment.

On Tuesday afternoon, a judge ordered David Matusiewicz' mother to stay away from his kids because she could pose a risk to their safety.

Police are now trying to figure out if David knew his father was about to shoot his ex-wife. David Matusiewicz is being held on an unrelated charge.

The second victim, Mulford, was a nurse, wife and mother to two teenage daughters. Mulford was coming to court to support her friend.
