EVERETT, Mass. (AP) - A state-ordered cleanup of a contaminated former industrial site in Everett where Las Vegas casino mogul Steve Wynn wants to build a gambling resort won't delay the project.
Wynn officials said in a statement Tuesday they do not anticipate a delay and the proposed casino may even accelerate the cleanup process.
The cleanup is facing a potential delay as the company that owns the property has just been granted a four-month extension.
State officials tell the Boston Herald (http://bit.ly/X4wQ1H ) the company was supposed to file a cleanup plan with the state Department of Environmental Protection by February 2014, but asked in a Jan. 25 letter for an extension until June 2014. That request has been granted.
A 1995 study found high levels of arsenic and lead in the soil.
