Magazine Says 2 NJ Cities Among Most Miserable In US

Posted: Updated:

Forbes has released a list of 20 of the most miserable cities in America, but Philly residents can breathe easy knowing they did not make the list.

Two South Jersey cities were not as lucky: Camden and Atlantic City are on the list at numbers 13 and 15, respectively.

Atlantic City was once the gambling mecca of the east coast, but is now losing casino revenue, contributing to its unemployment rate of 14.4 percent.

Forbes says the high crime and poverty rates landed Camden on the list. Philly's neighbor across the river was just named the most impoverished city by the U.S. Census Bureau.

New York City was also on the list, which was issued Thursday. N.Y.C. came in right at the middle with No. 10. Forbes said New Yorkers face the longest commutes and highest taxes in the country.
