CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
Bond was set at $500,000 Monday for a Chicago man charged with reckless homicide in connection with a crash that killed his girlfriend Saturday night on the West Side.
Andrew Jones, 33, faces felony charges of aggravated DUI resulting in death, reckless homicide and misdemeanor charges of driving on a suspended license and driving a vehicle without insurance, according to police News Affairs.
His girlfriend, Chantelle Jones, 26, of the 1200 block of South 56th Court in Cicero, died about 5:30 a.m. Saturday from injuries she suffered in the crash, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
She was a passenger in a 1998 4-door Saturn traveling southbound about 2:15 a.m. when the driver lost control and hit a viaduct in the 1600 block of South Western Avenue, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.
The force of the crash split the car in half, leaving the passenger side of the vehicle completely exposed, police said.
Paramedics found Chantelle Jones lying on the ground next to the wreck, Mirabelli said.
She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she later died, he said.
Jones, who was driving, was treated at Mount Sinai Hospital and released into police custody, Mirabelli said. Police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
Jones is scheduled to appear March 15 in court for a preliminary hearing.
