Home prices in Chicago area up over 2 percent in December

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
Home prices in the Chicago metropolitan area rose 2.2 percent in December from a year earlier, according to the latest Standard & Poor's/Case-Shiller home price index.
But prices slid 0.7 percent from November, the biggest monthly decline among 20 metropolitan areas, the report showed.
The 10-city index rose 5.9 percent year-over-year and climbed 0.2 percent from November. The 20-city index rose 6.8 percent from December 2011, and also rose 0.2 percent from November.
Nineteen metropolitan areas posted gains year-over-year, with only New York showing a decline of 0.5 percent.
In contrast, only nine metropolitan areas saw gains from November to December.
The biggest annual gains were in Phoenix, up 23 percent; San Francisco, up 14.4 percent; Detroit, up 13.6 percent; and Las Vegas, up 12.9 percent.
