(MyFoxBoston.com) – The Massachusetts' special Senate election is heating up with three confirmed candidates and two more likely candidates on the way. With all of this movement for John Kerry's vacated seat, other candidates have spoken up and are poised to take over for whoever the Senate successor may be.

Congressmen Stephen Lynch and Edward Markey delivered their certified voter signatures to state officials Monday guaranteeing both a spot in the Democratic primary. Cohasset businessman Gabriel Gomez has also gathered enough signatures and is the sole Republican contender thus far.

State Rep. Dan Winslow, a Republican, and Michael Sullivan, a former U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts, must have their signatures in by 5 p.m. Wednesday; however, Brian McNiff at Sect. William Galvin's Office says both the candidates will be fine.

According to the Boston Phoenix, several candidates have come forward looking to fill Rep. Markey's shoes in the 5th Congressional District if he wins the special election, including State senators Will Brownsberger and Katherine Clark, and state representative Carl Sciortino.

Middlesex County Sheriff Peter Koutoujian has not confirmed that he will in fact run; however, over the weekend, Koutoujian's committee director and campaign manager registered the domain name Koutoujianforcongress.com.

Koutoujian issued a statement Monday saying his primary focus was the people of Middlesex County.

"I love this job, and I'm continuing to implement reforms and other important programs we have started."

A primary for the special election is slated for April 30 and the final election will be held June 25.
