High tide fears prompt Scituate officials to cancel school Thursday

SCITUATE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch and coastal flood warning for coastal areas in Massachusetts.

In an announcement on the town's website, officials in Scituate are strongly encouraging residents to evacuate no later than three hours before high tide which will occur around 6 a.m. on Thursday and 7 p.m. on Friday.

It is believed that coastal flooding during three tide cycles will be more severe than that of Storm Nemo.

A shelter at Scituate High School will be open at 8 p.m. Wednesday, and all Scituate Public Schools will be closed on Thursday.

Non-emergency travel is prohibited on all coastal areas affected by coastal flooding and will be strictly enforced.
