Police: Attleboro teen stabbed, tried to drown 63-year-old neighbor

ATTLEBORO, Mass. (AP) — Attleboro police have arrested a 15-year-old boy they say forced his way into a 63-year-old neighbor's home and stabbed her before trying to drown and asphyxiate her.

Police said the woman was sleeping when the teen broke in to her home, just doors down from his own. They said the teen attacked the woman with a knife, stabbing her several times in the torso and neck.

Then, investigators said the teen then put the woman in a car and drove her to a pond near the Seekonk line as she went in and out of consciousness. The boy then pulled her out of the car, dragged her toward the water and tried to drown her.

It didn't end there.

Police said the teen then put the woman back in the car, drove her to another location, plugged the vehicle's tailpipe and tried to asphyxiate her. As the boy was plugging the tailpipe, the woman told police she woke up, climbed into the driver's seat and drove off.

The woman was able to drive herself to a nearby hospital and was taken to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence with a stab wound to her neck and other injuries not considered life-threatening.

The boy is charged with attempted murder, home invasion and kidnapping. Police said he was known to them from behavioral issues at school.

Sources told Fox 25 that District Attorney Sam Sutter is considering prosecuting the teen as an adult.

No names were released.
