There was a surprise announcement Wednesday from Detroit's mayor.  Dave Bing said he would not fight an emergency financial manager for the city.

"It is simply a fight that we cannot win at the eleventh hour in a 30 minute appeals hearing," said Bing.  "Whether we like it or not, an emergency financial manager is coming to Detroit."

However, some members of city council aren't ready to give up yet.

"He's thrown up his hands and [said] that somebody else should come in and run this city.  I don't believe that, and I never will," said City Council President Charles Pugh.

The council's next step is a hearing to appeal the appointment of an EFM.

Joining Huel Perkins and Charlie Langton on our panel to discuss:

Charles Pugh, who went from reporting the news as a TV anchor to making news as the president of Detroit City Council.

Rep. Fred Durhal, who hopes to go from a state representative to becoming the next mayor of Detroit.  He also says the fight against an emergency financial manager is not over.

And Sheila Cockrel, who spent 16 years on the city council before leaving to become a professor of politics at Wayne State University.  She believes it's time to work with the state to solve the city's problems.
