CENTER MORICHES, N.Y. (AP) - A Long Island pastor says he prayed out loud for a burglar he detained breaking into his church.
Newsday said that the Rev. Michael Jankowski called 911 as he struggled with an intruder he found in his parish office early Thursday morning.
The pastor of the nondenominational congregation tells the newspaper he tackled the trespasser and then told him God loved him.
Suffolk County police arrived and arrested 43-year-old Brian Cook. He was arraigned Friday on a burglary charge. Bail was set at $5,000.
The name of Cook's lawyer wasn't immediately available.
Jankowski is 6-foot-1 and weighs 250 pounds. He says he was able to call the police on his cellphone and then grab Cook by the jacket before subduing him.
