(MyFoxBoston.com) – Three suspects will be charged in connection with a fire that occurred at a former McDonald's in West Roxbury late Friday night.
Police responded to 1663 VFW Parkway around 11:08 p.m. and saw smoke coming from a building across the street.
Officers were met by firefighters who said that the rear door was found open with fresh footprints leading toward the Charles River. The footprints continued into the water and onto the other side of the river.
Assisted by Massachusetts State Police and officers from the Dedham Police Department, officers were able to apprehend three suspects, all wearing wet clothing.
James McManus, 19, of West Roxbury, was located behind the Irish Ale House in Dedham. He was transported to Faulkner Hospital for further evaluation and later released.
Denis Florez, 18, of Roslindale, was located near the scene and transported to Brigham and Women's Hospital for further evaluation.
Mark Collins, 18, of West Roxbury, arrived on scene shortly thereafter and told police all three had been inside the McDonald's and accidentally started the fire. He was transported to Faulkner Hospital for further evaluation and released.
All three suspects have been charged with arson (other commercial) and breaking and entering a building.
The fire chief has estimated the building damage to be approximately $100,000.
