MBTA driver attacked by group of teens

Posted: Updated:

DORCHESTER (MyFoxBoston.com) – Police are trying to track down 15 teenage boys accused of beating and punching an MBTA driver.

Police say the Route 16 bus was stopped at Columbia Road in Dorchester early Saturday morning. Investigators say a passenger threw her Charlie Card at the 53-year-old driver after the two had a fare-related dispute.

During their argument, a group of teenagers gathered in front of the stopped bus, blocking the road. Police say the group of kids tried to pull the driver from the bus's side window, beating and punching him.

During it all, the driver hit the brakes and activated an alarm so the bus would not roll forward on top of anyone.

The driver was taken to the hospital and released with minor injuries.

Police are unsure if the fare dispute with the woman is related to the teenagers' attack. They say they have recovered the Charlie Card the woman threw at the driver and hope they can track her down.

No arrests have been made.
