Promising Plymouth teen with peanut allergy dies suddenly

PLYMOUTH, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A 19-year-old Bryant University freshman who has severe peanut allergies died Friday after accidentally eating a peanut butter cookie; however, authorities are investigating if that was all that was in the cookie.

Robin Fitzpatrick said her son penned a bucket list when he was just 9-years-old that said he wanted to live until he was 100. Unfortunately, a freak accident took Cameron's life.

Cameron Groezinger Fitzpatrick had only been home in Plymouth for a few hours. He was on his spring break and had just shared with his mother that he made the Dean's List.

Robin Fitzpatrick said her son was usually very diligent and asked before he ate anything if it contained nuts or nut oil. She believes that he assumed it was safe to eat because someone else had the cookie and was fine.

Cameron reportedly told his family that someone had given him the cookie.

Cameron's family had nothing but kind words for their loved one. Cameron's sister said they had a unique bond like no other brother and sister, and Cameron's father said everything his son did was perfect.

Cameron played hockey at Plymouth North High School. He was a member of the National Honor Society, and despite having asthma, was a great athlete.

Investigators are performing a toxicology report because police think there may have been marijuana in the cookie; however, they stress that they don't believe foul play was involved.

Cameron's family and friends are holding a memorial for him at Armstrong Skating Rink at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

A wake is being held at Cartmell Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday and the funeral will be held at St. Peter's Church in Plymouth at 10 a.m. on Thursday.

The family is also setting up a scholarship fund in Cameron's name. The money will go towards a scholarship for a Plymouth North High School student.
