WOBURN, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A Nigerian national is facing identity and fraud charges after being arrested Tuesday morning at his home in Reading. Police said more than $210,000 has been reported stolen by victims.

Ikponmwosa Ogiugo, 20, was arraigned Tuesday in Woburn District Court on 12 counts of identity fraud, 23 counts of forgery, five counts of larceny over $250, and larceny over $250 by check. A judge ordered Ogiugo to be held on $5,000 cash bail. If Ogiugo posts bail, he must surrender his passport and remain under house arrest with a monitoring bracelet.

An investigation began in December after police received several reports of check fraud. According to police, the probe lead police to Ogiugo, who they say delivered newspapers in the community and "was a common link among the victims."

Police searched Ogiugo's home and seized computers, hard drives and printers, as well as numerous documents, cash and cell phones.

The investigation involved the Woburn and Reading police departments, Middlesex District Attorney's office, U.S. Secret Service, Internal Revenue Service, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the U.S. Postal Service.

Ogiugo is scheduled to be back in court for a pretrial conference on April 10. Police say additional charges are expected. Anyone with information is asked to call Woburn police at 781-933-1212.
